Where has SWS been? |
Sunday, December 09 @ 08:06:52 CST |
 |
Posted by Seele | | SWSimulation.com has been down for a while now and it has literally taken months to get it back up. It was a domain name issue whereby after our recent renewal, someone actually requested the payment to be reversed with our old registrar. The payment was reversed, the domain was locked and the registrar removed out ability to see and edit the domain. Not only that, but they took over as Admin and Technical contacts for the domain.
This event occured at the same time as we were attempted to transfer the domain to another registrar, so the domain transfer was killed in the process, however due to its limbo state neither registrar actually informed us of what had happened or where the domain was. It essentially sat in limbo for a while until the whole mess was discovered bit by bit and rectified.
The SWS domain is re-registered, transferred and at this moment paid for up to 2010. There shouldn't be any further domain registry issues for us in the future. The Dev Team can finally resume work and get back into the swing of things.

SWSimulation Downtime |
Sunday, September 23 @ 02:14:56 CDT |
 |
Posted by Seele | | The SWSimulation site has been down the past couple of weeks due to the domain name registration lapsing. It took us a while to track down who had actually registered the domain name and had paid for it previously, then it took us a while to initiate a domain registrar transfer. It should be transferred in the coming days.

Site Progress Update |
Monday, April 17 @ 09:44:29 CDT |
 |
Posted by Beyn Vrokar | | Greetings SWSimmers, it's been a while...but this marks the first of more regular news updates on the games status.
First of all, yes, we are still here and we remain hard at work. To begin, this is what we've been up to since November 2005:
- CODING. Thanks to a committed and determined Clarr Solo, coding is coming along at a steady pace. Currently he is working on the cockpit view of the galaxy, a work in progress sample of which can be seen below:

- Galaxy Coordinates. This is mostly complete. All coordinates of the Systems for the Star Wars Sim galaxy, all 280+ of them, have been entered into the database thanks to Byden and her team. The only thing left to do with coordinates are the sector divisions.
- Ship Information. Lebezyatnikov and Andrew Fel are currently working on documenting ship stats that are available in the Star Wars Sim.
- Vehicle Information. This project is currently unassigned, but once it is, they will be tasked with recording stats for the vehicles available in the Star Wars Sim.
- System/Planet Creation. The tool to create systems and planets is being finished up as I write this. Once that is complete, the majority of the work left for the SWSim will begin...inputing all the raw data for each system and planet in the SWSim galaxy. With all of the available systems, there could be in excess of 1,000 descriptions that need to be entered. Quite the daunting task.
For the System/Planet creation, not only do the planets need to be entered into the appropriate system, but their information, planet sizes, moons, gas giants, sun types, and planetary positions within the system need to be detailed as well. The galaxy must be done prior to character creation being completed, as they are linked together heavily. When done, character creation will look similar to this:

And when all the System/Planet information is gathered, they will look something like this:

The above lists are only a part of what is being worked on/needs to be worked on. Anyone who wants to help with any of the tasks listed above, in addition to character information, art, etc., contact one of the site administrators.
More updates to come.

SWS Community Closed Temporarily |
Tuesday, October 25 @ 08:01:29 CDT |
 |
Posted by Seele | | When I first assumed this job of Admin Lead, the future of the game weighed heavily on my mind, and I compared the life of the community to the development of the game. I initially proposed to close the community segment of the game down to allow for the concentration of the Development Team on development of the game. I yielded this opinion in favour of keeping the community open with the use of Tides of Darkness, which was hastily worked on by Vrokar and Byden to be ready for implementation. ToD has been plagued with issues, from factions taking a long time to sort out their players, to red herrings which have seen players go right off the intended path of the Admins, to loss of mod team members. ToD, in my mind, despite all the hard work people like Vrokar have put into it, has not been a success.
With ever increasing drops in player morale and community esprit de corps, I finally feel that my better angels were indeed shouted down when I initially took this job. Given the strong community objections to the idea previously, I gave the community the chance. The community said they would put their time and effort behind it, but unfortunately I have predominantly been let down time and time again. Extremely few people have helped out consistently and effectively. That, combined with an ever increasing workload for the Admins, we are having trouble finding the time to effectively manage and deal with the community's issues. For some time now we have been unable to povide the community with adequate avenues of entertainment on a game level, and have not been able to keep up with the broad spectrum of events on a development and in game level with so few staff.
To this end, I am going to close the game to players, to allow us Admins and Dev to invest our energy soley into the development of SWS and the realisation of the dream. All faction forums will be closed entirely, and all player interactions will occur through the OOC Forums, which will remain open. Access to the IC site will also be removed. No new player accounts will be allowed for now, so any discussions in the OOC Forums will have to be purely from the current community.
There have been a few people who have consistently helped out SWS with good intentions; To those who have, I give you my utmost thanks; You will all be invited to become the Alpha and Beta testers to provide input into game development.
The game will reopen once movement and assets have been programmed, which I cannot see being completed for eight months. The community in its current state would not survive in a healthy manner for eight months. We will e-mail all accounts when the game reopens, in the meantime, you have only the OOC forums to communicate. Those wishing to say their farewells, this is the place. No positions within factions will be guaranteed, and whether you join up with the same faction or a different one will be entirely up to you when the game reopens.
Questions, comments, abuse; The OOC Forums.

BlazeIRC Network Announcements |
Monday, September 26 @ 01:57:39 CDT |
 |
Posted by Stratus | | First of all I would like to thank Seele & Evaders99 for granting me news posting privilges. Just to make sure it is clear, I am not a member/player of SWS, nor am I any longer a member of the sim administration, as I retired long ago for RL issues and such. Anyways, my purpose in this message is to announce some changes that will be occuring on the BlazeIRC Network, that will affect the SWS userbase that utilizes our services. BlazeIRC is proud to provide these services to the SWS community and any other community free of charge. We have a responsible and dedicated staff that is always available (there is always someone online 24/7).
First off, for a very brief period sometime on Monday or Tuesday of this week. Services will be taken offline for a brief 15-minute or less update. The IRCd's may be restarted but that should only mean 30 second or so downtime as far as the actual server and connectivity goes. Services is what handles the authentication and registration for channel, nicks, and provides many other services that the average user is not aware of. Downtime, if any, should be very brief.
My second announcement is a 'change-in-command' or succession of network leadership. Phoenix (aka Phryss) is now the Network Operations Manager, and is the person to go to for any problems, technical, problems with abuse or staff, or anything concerning the network. She is the official contact. Starting at the end of this spring, she will be effectively the Network CEO for approximately two years or longer. I will be out of contact, and being in school working on a very complicated degree with a butload of classes will make it extremely difficult as it has been as well as RL to maintain and manage network operations. I am still the owner of the network and will always be, it has been up and running for about 5 years now I want to say, maybe 6, and I intend to keep it going for years to come. Occassionaly if anyone wishes to support the actual server that hosts the chat network and many other sites (the only thing that costs is the dedicated server that is rented for a group of sites), you may donate via paypal to paypal@swrebellion.com. There is no obligation for this. All donations go to support the monthly rental payment for the dedicated server. I thank you all for your friendships and for everything. Good luck to you all in your endeavors.

Development Preview |
Sunday, September 18 @ 00:37:59 CDT |
 |
Posted by Seele | | Development has remained silent for some time now, as we have been working away in secret on many aspects of SWS. I won't reveal all of the big secrets, but I will show you all a quick preview of what the next generation In Character interface will look like. You may also notice that ground terrain has been done as well, and my thanks go to Samweis for helping SWS in creating the ground terrain graphics, he had to put up with a very picky and inarticulate Seele to eventually come up with something I think we are all very pleased with.
